About theese pagesWhen I first made these pages it was mainly because I could find no pages about Chios in Norwegian, and I was bubbling over with excitement over the island and her beauty in every way, and just had to tell about it. I considered making my pages in English too, since part of my intentions behind these pages was to meet other people who love Chios, but I decided against it. There are so many good pages in English already! Take a look at the links on my link page(Linkside).
To give you some idea about me and my love for Chios; Here is what I wrote on my pages at Virtual Tourist. I have updatet it a bit since we all have gotten older since I wrote it:
A little bit about myselfI am a 43 years old Norwegian housewife who used to love travelling everywhere. in 1990 we visited Chios, Greece for the first time, and since then it has been more and more difficult to dedicate my vacation for any other place, so I have been back several times. I love the island, the people, the food! .. Don't get me started on the food if you don't have a lot of time to spare! ;-)
I am married and we have two boys, age 9 and 15.
We live in a house by the sea in the south of Norway, have a small, low cost cabin in the mountains and least, but not last, a black cat named Sofus who loves going to the mountains with us. Well, he doesn't jump up and down with happiness when he goes into the cage for the car, but he likes it when we get there. We also have a hamster-boy named Mimi.
Why ChiosChios is the place in the world where I feel most at home. Like many people I have been in contact with who loves Greece, or a special part of Greece, I just feel a deep happiness when I am there, and I can't really put the finger on one or two things which explains my love for the place. It is the total package; the beauty of the island, her people, and the food!
Chios - the island of the winds and the scentsWhen I walk onto the steps from the plane, I can feel the scents of the island and the breeze of the cooling meltemi. Happiness is total when I walk towards the airport building to wait for my luggage. The building is small, divided into two areas, arrival and departure, and if you manage to get lost here, you'll get lost anywhere ;-) Chios has a very small airport, something most of us who love the island know to appreciate. The size means that the biggest airplanes can't land here and the charter tourism is comfortably low.
And if you would like to know what I write about Chios, this beautiful island, Google does a pretty good job translating web-pages. Well... sometimes the translation can be pretty funny, but try it out :)
